President's Report
Hi all
By now you have heard Block Parents in Edmonton is no more. Not true Safe Parents are alive and well. The name change was required due to a dispute, I am confident we would have won if we had an endless supply of money to pay lawyers. National Block Parents came to being in the mid 80s we were here in the early 70s using the logo and the name Block Parents. They trademarked the logo and the name Block Parent in 1986 with a provision in their bylaws for programs currently using them. Later they removed this provision and proceeded to take Edmonton to Federal Court saying we had no right to use them. Because of a lack of knowledge and funds our side of the story was ignored by the courts and the result is what you are now a participant of .Welcome to The Edmonton Safe Parent Association, an organization carrying on exactly the same as before. As money becomes available brochures and pamphlets will need to be printed but the number one priority is new window signs. These will be made of a hard cardboard as they will need to be changed when Safe Parents move out of a neighborhood as we have integrated a code that lets us know if the sign belongs in that window. More info on sign exchanges will be coming out.
I am currently looking for another bingo hall to host bingo from. This is a result of the closure of Palms Bingo due to charities leaving and not making enough money mainly because of the smoking bylaw. I hope to have a bingo by next month but the masses only move so fast.
Guess what? The masses moved quicker than I expected. We have a Bingo Hall and dates!! Keep reading, the information is further along.
