person.
15% of all young Internet users have met in person at least
one individual whom they first met on the Internet, of those only 6% were
accompanied by a parent or other adult.
38% of young people say that their parents know nothing or
very little about their online activities
1 in 4 youth have been sent pornography on the Internet by a
stranger and 40% have been asked by a stranger to give personal
information.

offences are among the crimes least likely to be reported to the police. |

In
2002, over half (61%) of all victims of sexual offenses reported to the
police were children and youth under 18 years of age. Rates of sexual
offences known to the police are highest among girls aged 11 to 19, with t
highest rate at age 13.
Children
under 12 were most often victimize by family members and youth aged 12 to
17 were most frequently victimized by acquaintances (47%).
Between 1997 and 2002, law enforcement in Canada laid
charges against 226 men and 11 women for production or distribution of
child pornography. |
