It’s difficult to write an article in December that won’t be printed until late January; I hope that you had a safe holiday season, and that the snow removal in your neighbourhoods went somewhat according to plan. Now the children are back in school again, excited over all the gifts and family gatherings. Are their minds on safety? Probably not. We can help with that. Get in touch with your school principal and encourage them to have us come out and talk with the children about safety; Let the school know that you are a Safe Parent in that community; Make the school aware that the program exists that close. Ask if we can post some material in each classroom on their bulletin boards. That way the new sign for safety will become known to the children before the end of the school year. The program has certainly had a busy year. But now your Board is looking forward to the future. We are reviewing the Bylaws and the Policies. These need to be updated to reflect the changes in time to be ratified at the Annual General Meeting. A tentative date for the meeting has been set, for May 2007. More information will be forthcoming in the Spring Newsletter. |
Please plan to attend the Annual Meeting. This is where questions can be answered best, and your participation in the Association is most visible. It’s also a time when we can get to know each other a bit more, and get a sense of what a. membership of 6000+ means. During the sign exchange weeks, even Spunky met a few Safe parents, most of who did not know we had a mascot. So come to the Annual Meeting, take part in decisions, and get to know more about your Association! We welcome two new Directors at Large. It’s great to have, fresh eyes and extra helping hands at a time when the Edmonton program is on the edge of growth and activity Our Website is well under construction. Andy is doing a super job of building the new site. Look for more news as those progresses. We hope to have more photos of our mascot at community events up there soon. (He’s a shameless publicity hunter!) The children love him. And he reinforces the new Edmonton Safe Parent sign. So there is a lot going on for us this year. Please call or email the office for more information, or for safety presentations at your schools. And we appreciate your support and encouragement. See you at the Annual Meeting.
