Who is The Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society

 

Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society is a non-profit, charitable organization established in November 1994, to provide direction and support for a variety of services targeting Aboriginal children, youth and their families.

 

Programs presently in operation

 

Adult Employment Programs:

CCT (Construction)

Employment programs for Aboriginal people over the age of 18.

 

Rites of Passage - Full time cultural, educational, life management program for Aboriginal youth between the ages of 12 to 15.

 

Kokomish House - Long term residential program for Aboriginal youth, 12-17 years old, who are in care of Children Services.

 

Orenda House

A transitional housing project for homeless families ranging in the age of 15-29 years old.

 

Iskwew House

Long term residential program for Aboriginal youth who are pregnant or parenting and in the care of Children Services.

 

Coyote Kids

A weekly cultural program for Aboriginal children 6-12 years of age.  With a summer camp in July and August.

 

Coyote Pride

In School mentoring program for children in grades 4-6

 

Healthy Families

A long-term intensive home visitation program, which provides services to pregnant women and first time parenting families.

 

Nitotemak Foster Care

Foster care for Aboriginal children and youth in the care of Children Services.

 

White Cloud Head Start

Provides Aboriginal pre-school children with an opportunity to develop and learn different skills to be successful in the school system.

 

Sacred Circle Family Intervention

An in home family support program for families involved with Children Services or Family Enhancement.

 

Community Parents

A program to support the natural helpers in the community in supporting other families.

 

Circle of Hope

Wholistic support program for Aboriginal survivors of residential schools.

 

Wind Dancers

Pre-Employment program for youth ages 16-29.

 

Parent Link Centre

A gathering place for Aboriginal families, that provides free programs and resources so they can share, experience and bond in a safe and caring environment

 

Community Connections Resource Centre

A centre where Aboriginal youth, Adults and Families can access community resources and cultural connections.

 

Soup & Bannock

A free community meal offered on the last Friday of the month except for July and August.  All people are welcome.

 

Two Worlds Aboriginal Awareness Workshop

A two-day workshop designed for non-Aboriginal agencies who are working within the Aboriginal community.

 

Health for Two Drop-in Site:

Where pregnant moms can get free milk coupons, bus tickets and receive information on prenatal and postnatal care.

 

Other Resources Available are:

 

Family Outreach - Available for program participants.

 

7 Generations Family Enhancement Unit - Supports for people who have Children Services involvement. Available Monday to Friday.

 

Children’s Community Response Team – Provide supports to youth and there families with suicide prevention, parent/youth conflict, mental health assessments and crisis intervention.

 

Partners for Kids and Youth – a community based collaboration to serve families in the Abbotsfield area.

 

AADAC Counselling services available every Wednesday.

 

STDC Clinic – On-site nurse available every Wednesday.
